So who are you?

Hi, I'm Andrew Dyster. I'm a freelance web developer residing in Perth, Western Australia. I'm of the coding variety.

And what qualifies you as a developer?

I have over 10 years experience working in the industry. I've worked for such companies as National Australia Bank, Ericsson, Hewlett-Packard and Nokia.

Lets talk technical. What do you know?

I'm equally confortable doing both frontend and backend coding.

On the frontend, I'm well versed with the usual suspects (html5, css, javascript, jQuery, AJAX, various CSS frameworks, myriad of javascript libraries etc..)

On the backend I primarily work with Java. I know my way around full-scale JEE web stacks but I personally prefer to work with the nimble Play! framework.

More recently I've had a bit of dabble with Javascript backends (e.g. Node.js) and I'm looking forward to native Scala support in the next version of Play!.

Methodology. Do you know what that means?

Certainly. I've utilised the cowboy method (primarily my own apps) to full-scale SDLC waterfall projects to a whole gamut in between the two extremes.

You got any concrete examples?

Aside from the dozens of half-baked, half completed projects residing on my hard-drive, I've actually managed to release a few: Meat in a Park, ezyUtilz and Lift Surfer.

I'm currently working on a facebook fitness app that utilises game mechanics and social proof to help people lose weight. That should see the light of day soon...

What else do you like to do?

When I'm not coding, I like to trawl through Hacker News, make YouTube movies with my nephews and learn how the world works.
